Embrace Your Inner Artist

Did I say daily writing exercise?

That was rather optimistic of me, wasn’t it.

I’m sure I didn’t say daily.

Not daily, as in, every day.

Sorry, my computer died briefly.

As Andrew Klavan is always pointing out, if you want to be a writer, you have to first be a voracious reader. And if there is one thing I’ve learned from the mater and the Fierce Family Fixer (both massive nerds) it is: never stop reading. Thus you feed both your mind and your soul.

But Genevieve, how can I be a writer and a reader when I’m so busy with work and grownup life and all my other responsibilities? All the things society tells me I’m supposed to do before thirty-five…

Sigh.

Enter: The Artist’s Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity.

Of all the books I’ve read on writing and art (and that would be A LOT — the latter two being the mater’s favorite subjects) this is my favorite on writing itself. The three biggest takeaways: a daily writing habit, smelling the roses, and feeding your inner artist. Ok, yes, I suppose you could find those three in any book but this one beats them all for riotous good fun. Whether you need to tap into your wild side, rejuvenate your writer’s journal, or create a new bucket list, this is the book for it.

Enjoy!
