Culture

I think people look at me and they think:

Oh, big family culture.

Oh, purity culture.

Oh, homeschooling culture.

Nah bro, it’s just loving culture.

I do the best that I can for all the people that I can for as long as I can.

And then I dip.

These days, my dude keeps me from being such a spaz. And the clan keeps me insane in my membrane.

My road back to God and contentment began with counting the blessings in my life. Eleven head of niblings so far. Good grief, at a certain point I should probably start learning their names…

Then I started realizing what I really wanted and praying for it…

I promised God I would be a wise, holy, and ascetic virgin for Him this year, a la St. Genevieve, and thus I attempt to write my way toward Him and to make wiser and wiser decisions every day…

What I have written, I have written. I do my best. I have endless hope in the Lord.

I can’t really stand in the synagogue and say, Thank God I’m not like that sinner over there…

I hope wherever you are, whatever you struggle with, you will find that friend to encourage you in your faith.

Maybe it’s a much-needed therapist. Andrew Klavan wrote in his memoir that his therapist loved him back to health, and then was surprised when he became a Christian! Like I said, my therapist was a much-needed friend when I was in school.

Maybe it’s an encouraging friend, a comforting parent, or Biblical passage.

As one of my Christian girlfriends pointed out recently: Genevieve, the more time you spend with Jesus, the happier you are.

It took me forever to tune out all the world’s problems and focus on my work. I had become really overstimulated with the news, the politics, the endless people talking…

I attempt now to be wise like Socrates and know when I know nothing.

I work on a very special quilt.

I talk to my boo. We have the most interesting conversations about God.

And the world keeps turning without me. Because as my mama was always telling me when I was young: The world doesn’t revolve around you, Genevieve.

I did mention that you should pray for everyone mentioned in this blog, right? And of course that includes me…

I think I broke the no-chocolate-during-Lent rule twice in my search for greater fatness. Oops.
