Compliments

I’m never really sure how a man will react when I tell him exactly what I think.

They have an irritating habit of bursting out laughing or getting angry.

It used to hurt a lot.

This is why I tell my man things gently and very, very flirtatiously.

Ok, there was one day…Thanksgiving last year…where my brother was bouncing like a puppy — why do they always DO that- and demanding a career update and I told him something very flatly and he replied in one, effervescent sentence and I had this startling vision of OH OH MY HE NEVER THOUGHT I WAS DUMB AT ALL…..

I’m never dumb. Unless I’m angry.

My man is way, way too easy to please, it’s almost ridiculous.

But then I was meditating on Eve and had the startling realization that it is, in fact, my job to lead him to good choices.

One does try to do the “responsible” thing and get the bigger apartment and the college debt cleared before having kids…

But then he sent me his baby pics and that is just…dirty pool…

One day I woke up and thought, Oh hell no, why was I taking relationship advice from my unmarried siblings? They don’t have successful marriages and I’m not sure if it’s related to insecurity or fear of men or what but…

My single sister’s reaction was like LOL why you and I thought, Oh that explains like ten YEARS of my insecurities.

Fearfully and wonderfully made, Genevieve, fearfully and wonderfully made.

I did flatly inform my father that none of the Christian men around here would look twice at me.

But see when I said something to my man about gold and silver and rubies and rings, he told me, Oh you are worth far more than rubies.

Biblical compliments do tend to make a woman’s heart go pitter-pat.
